"1917 was the year that Jack Barhs, the son of a ship captain, started serving his clam chowder on the back deck of his beached boathouse. Located at the entrance to Sandy Hook beach, it soon became a Jersey Shore landmark restaurant. His famous chowder is still made by the Bahrs family."
